Immanuel is seeking a Director of Music Ministry to warm, friendly, part-time (25 hours a week) to enrich and support the life of Immanuel. 


A successful candidate will become part of a talented staff that cares about each other and the people we serve.

Director of Music Ministry

Position: Director of Music Ministry

Hours: 15 hours per week, average

Supervisor: Pastor

Mission: To enrich and support the worship life of Immanuel through music


Responsibilities

 • Prepare, schedule, rehearse, and conduct choirs and ensembles for regular and seasonal worship

 • Work cooperatively with the church committees, musicians, and staff in preparing for worship, including hymn selection, liturgy planning, and arrangement of the worship space

 • Coordinate guest instrumentalists and choral scholars

 • Collaborate with children’s and youth ministries to develop age-appropriate music opportunities

 • Actively recruit people to participate in the music ministry at Immanuel

 • Work with the Worship and the Arts Committee to encourage choir members and instrumentalists through workshops and training opportunities

 • Maintain compliance with music licensing and copyright regulations

 • Work to identify and develop new opportunities for music ministry in the community

 • Oversee the care and maintenance of instruments, especially organ and pianos

Accountability

 • Terms of employment will be determined by the Congregational Council

 • The pastor will serve as direct supervisor, with an annual review conducted in consultation with the Personnel Committee

 • It is not required or expected that the Director of Music Ministry be or become a member of the congregation


Qualifications

 • Thorough working knowledge in choir conducting through formal training and/or experience

 •  Ability to work with all ages

 • Ability to accompany rehearsal on keyboard

 • Knowledge of choral and instrumental music suitable for Christian worship

 • Understanding of Lutheran worship, both traditional and alternative, or openness to acquiring it
