Communities Creating Opportunity
CCO logo
CCO brings people of faith together to build relationships, develop strong leaders, and improve the quality of life in our communities. As an effective example of faith-based community organizing in the Kansas City area, CCO represents an important and underrepresented aspect of ministry to our community. Immanuel members have worked with other CCO congregations to advocate for healthy and safe communities, educational achievement, economic empowerment, housing opportunities and fair lending practices.Learn more.

Campus Ministry
Immanuel Lutheran Church is a designated Cooperating Congregation in Campus Ministry, providing area university students, faculty, and staff a welcoming worship experience and Church home away from home. Learn more.

Westport Cooperative Services
Westport Cooperative Services
A community-service agency supported largely by area churches, this group’s many programs include delivery of hot meals to elderly (more than 150 a day), tutoring, a senior companion program, emergency assistance, a health clinic, a community center and in-home chore services. Immanuel members serve on the board.Learn more

Property care ministries for Immanuel
Quarterly Saturday “Work Days” are hosted by the Property Committee for those who enjoy mixing fellowship with handiwork, regardless of ability. Opportunities range from sweeping to painting to plumbing and wiring, fueled by donuts and fellowship.

Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries
Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries (MLM) is a social service organization in the metro-Kansas City area. It is supported by numerous churches, synagogues and other foundations and organizations. MLM serves over 50,000 people annually with programs for the homeless, emotionally distressed, aging and abused, as well as responding to other emergencies revolving around the basic necessities of life. Church World Service CROP WalkCWS CROP Hunger Walk button
CROP Walk is an annual event sponsored by Church World Service. It is a walk-a-thon that is used as a community based fundraiser for world hunger relief. Learn more.

Hollis Renewal CenterHollis
Many Immanuel groups use this Lutheran outdoor retreat/renewal center, and Immanuel members donate time to make it successful. Hollis programs include day camps and nature experiences. Learn more.

This Troost Avenue-based organization, with an impressive track record of moving homeless families to sustainable self-sufficiency, provides transitional housing, as well as “one-stop” counseling and support services.Learn more
